Ever since I was a little girl following my mom around Goodwill, thrifting, antiquing and resale shopping have been such a huge part of my life. I’ve always been drawn to vintage fashion and décor, and being able to find things at crazy low prices is just an added bonus. ? Sure, thrifting is much more work than shopping in a store with all of the current trends laid out right in front of you. However, it adds a unique layer to your personal style that will make your wardrobe and home feel like you’re telling a story. There’s something classy and comforting about a piece that has stood the test of time, whether it’s cocktail dress or an end table. My vintage finds show up from time to time in décor and fashion posts, but I felt like I wasn’t fully taking advantage of showing that area of interest here on Thirty Four-Seven. I so often get asked by people, “Where do you shop??” and “How do you know what to look for?!” so… lets talk about it! ☺️ I’m hoping this reoccurring “Three Things I Thrifted” feature will be a fun way for me to show off my latest finds, as well as a source for those interested to learn what to look for when they hit the resale shops. ??
This painting… I could still scream just thinking about finding it. ? Those of you who are local probably know of Grease and Honey restaurant family (the geniuses behind Sazzy B, The Buzz, and The Garage in Kenosha). They recently bought another building, and before starting renovations hosted an estate sale to get rid of everything inside. I walked around the sale looking like a human version of the heart eye emoji ?… everything was SO good. When I spotted this eclectic painting propped up in a corner, it was game over. I scored the artwork for $15, and it was everything I never knew I needed in our living room. I strive for our home to be one that feels creative and curated. I love a bright and cheery vibe, but also want it to feel cozy and warm. This painting fits all of the above. The bright colors are so “me”, but the warm wood frame and earthy fiber paper are right up Dillon’s alley. This is currently hanging on a thin wall in our living room that borders the entryway to the kitchen. Taking these photos also made me realize that I really need to add something underneath, maybe yet another plant stand or the vinyl player I’ve been tossing around buying for forever? ? We’ll see. One purchase at a time. ?
Next up is another home item I was stoked to find, this gold wire Mid Century Cocktail Caddy. I am the hugest sucker for bar cart accessories, our current set up is getting out of control because I’m constantly coming home with new drinkware. ? When I spotted this guy hanging out at one of my favorite resale shops, Nifty Thrifty, I was over the moon. When I saw the $6 price tag, I was basically running to the register. ??♀️ Antiquing tip: If you see a “Mid Century Modern” home item priced ridiculously low- BUY IT!! Even if you don’t have a place for it in your own home, this style is absolutely booming right now and the mark up price is out of control. I paid $6 for this, but if I had tried to resell, I’m confident I could have gotten at least 5 times that. There is no shame in “flipping” your thrifted pieces, if you’re knowledgeable enough in the subject to feel that you can make some money- why not? You deserve it just for knowing the worth! However, if you’re like me and fall in love with every piece you find, that’s cool too. Hold onto it, cherish it, and just be happy you paid next to nothing for it. ❤️
Number three is a piece that has so many fond memories attached to it, this embroidered fringe shawl that I bought in Nice, France. ?? Yes, I know, jetting off to Europe to do some casual thrifting isn’t exactly realistic, but I love this so much I just had to share. I was lucky enough to take a trip to France last year with my Aunt, traveling to Paris and Nice. ✈️ I did some vintage shopping in both areas, but a little resale shop in Vieille Ville (Old Town) was the one that really made me swoon. I was surrounded by vintage Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent cocktail dresses, and although I wanted everything in the store, my checkbook wasn’t agreeing with my heart. ??♀️ This was one of our last days abroad, and at that point I had already spent an absurd amount of Euros on food and wine. Feeling a little cheaper than normal, I searched for something I wouldn’t have to splurge on and came across this beauty in a sale bin. For $14, not only is this shawl a gorgeous addition to my wardrobe, but also a little piece of Europe to have with me always. Branch out and buy the crazy fringy shawl (or any other “out there” piece) because life is short and you should have fun getting dressed in the morning! If you’re not paying a huge amount of money for it, what’s the harm? Also, check out all of the different ways you can style it!
Thanks for following along with my journey to discover all of the vintage pretties. ? I could talk about this subject all day, so I hope this is one that you guys want to see again on the blog! Have any questions? Leave it in the comments or reach out to me on social media! Also, hashtag #347Home or #347Style in your own vintage finds so that I can peep. ? I would love to see! Happy thrifting! ?
