I can’t speak to how the weather is at home for all of my internet friends, but here in Wisconsin, we’re confused. A week ago it was 60 degrees outside and yesterday I wore my parka. The little bit of sunshine we’ve gotten has me thinking about bright floral prints, sandals and sleeveless tops, but the harsh reality is that we’ve got another couple weeks of jackets and scarves. #MidwestStruggles amiright?
I think this time of year it’s important to find a balance. We’re sick of cold weather clothes, but breaking out the summer wardrobe isn’t practical right now. Although I’m not brave enough to walk out the door without my jacket quite yet, incorporating spring colors and patterns into my style really helps boost my mood this time of year. Seasonal depression is a real thing, but putting on this floral dress had me seeing the light at the end of my brutal-Wisconsin-winter-tunnel. I paired it with a fun colored leather jacket, a scarf to stay cozy, and a pair of chucks (my laid back weekend shoe of choice). I’m all about outfits that feel quirky, and throwing on sneakers with a dress always makes me feel like I’m showing my personality. Also- COMFY!

Speaking of finding a balance, let’s talk about something that most of us struggle with when it comes to clothing: bargains and investments. I’m in the middle of reading The Curated Closet (which I’m not ready to post about quite yet, but definitely plan to in the future). For now, all you need to know is that the basic idea is to purge yourself of unnecessary items and only buy pieces that you love and will continue to wear. When I first started reading and getting into this minimalistic approach, I was all “NO MORE SALES” “ONLY STAPLE CLOTHING”. I am a total extremist and when I first jump into something I usually get pretty intense and talk to myself in caps lock. However, after pulling back a little and looking at some of the pieces that I love in my closet- I’ve decided that I think some cheaper and trendy pieces are okay. They help me balance out my staple items with things that I can have a little more fun with. Cheap items are a good way to play around and test trends without having to feel overly committed. The key here is to not go over board! Only allow your self a couple of these cheap, trendy, experimental pieces per season, or else you will end up with a closet full of junk.
What I’m getting at here is that this dress was $10. Although I’m not claiming that it will stick in my closet for years ahead, I had a lot of fun wearing it this day and know that I will wear it throughout this spring and summer. And for $10, I think I’m alright with that!
Let’s talk! What are you guys excited to start wearing this Spring?
Have any insight on clearance vs. investment pieces?
Anyone else reading The Curated Closet? Leave a comment, I would love to hear from you!

Love this outfit! I’ve never seen a leather jacket that colour. It’s gorgeous and works so well with the dress.
I am all about clearance clothing. I just can’t resist a bargain and it’s easier to justify a purchase to myself if it’s cheap.
