There are some trends that I never really get into, and others that I embrace whole-heartedly. The whole tassel thing that seems to be blowing up recently… you guys, I totally dig it. I can’t stop; I seriously want to add tassels to EVERYTHING. I think my favorite way that I’ve seen them used are on the big tassel statement earrings that are everywhere lately. I just picked up a couple of colorful pairs that definitely have an in-your-face vibe, which got me thinking that having a more low-key black pair could be a great addition to my ever-growing accessory collection. I always try to DIY before I buy, so I went to Hobby Lobby and roamed around looking for a little inspiration. When I came across this fringe in the leather crafting section, it was totally one of those “OMG THIS IS IT” experiences. The fluorescent lights in Hobby Lobby turned into a spotlight shining on the fringe… and in that moment, a DIY was born. Dramatic? Sorry. I love leather. I love tassels. I love these. Let’s make you a pair too. 🙂
SUPPLIES:
Leather Fringe (Two Packs)
Rhinestone Earring Posts
Tassel End Caps
All Purpose Glue (I like GO2 Glue for this)
Needle Nose Jewelery Pliers
Scissors
INSTRUCTIONS:
First, overlap two of the fringe pieces slightly and glue them together using a small amount of GO2 Glue on the end of one strip. Press together and hold for 30 seconds. I chose to trim off about 5 “lines” of my fringe at the end of the strip because I found that this makes it easier to fit into the tassel end caps later on. Repeat with other two pieces of fringe.
Next, roll each strip tightly and secure the end using a small amount of the glue. This should give you two tassels.
To attach the tassel end caps to the earring posts, use needle nose pliers to open the chain links leaving two links at the top of each cap. Insert the end link through the loop at the bottom of the earring post and squeeze together using pliers to close.
Lastly, apply glue to both the top of your tassels and the inside of the end caps. Squeeze tassel into end caps and let dry for 30 minutes.
Thats it! Easy enough, right? These earrings cost a total of $6, and I whipped them up in less than an hour! There are few things I love more than a quick, cheap, useful DIY. Here, I’m pairing them with a comfy tee and a leather jacket to add some personality to an outfit that would otherwise be a little ‘meh’. So fun to wear!
If I convinced you to make a pair for yourself, post them with the hashtag #347DIY. I would LOVE to see your spin on the project and how you end up wearing them!!

Thank you so much Izzy!!! Yes I take any photos that I’m not in, and then any that I am in either my boyfriend or my friend Melissa took. I just sort of hand them the camera and give them a little direction and then do the editing myself later. It gets the job done! haha
